THE ADVANCEMENT PLAN

WHAT IS ADVANCEMENT?
-Advancement is one of the methods to achieve Scouting's purposes.
-Advancement is the process by which a boy progresses from badge to badge.
-Advancement gives boys a means of measuring their progress.
-Advancement provides a satisfying means of recognizing boys for their progress.
-Advancement is not competition among boys.
-Advancement is a boy/family experience

RANKS AND BADGES
Cub Scout ranks are set up by grade, except for Bobcat, which all boys must earn.

BOBCAT

All Cub Scouts earn the Bobcat badge by learning the Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, handshake, salute, sign, motto, and meaning of "Webelos."  After receiving the Bobcat badge, the boys work on requirements based on their grade level.  If a boy joins Cub Scouting as a Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos Scout, he must earn the Bobcat badge before receiving any other award or rank.
  TIGER

The Tiger Cub badge is for those boys who have completed kindergarten.  Tiger Cubs earn the Tiger Cub badge after completing five achievements grouped in three areas: den activity, family activity, and a Go See It.  After completing the badge boys may earn one Tiger Track bead when they complete 10 electives.
  Wolf

A Cub Scout, who is in second grade, works to complete 12 achievements to earn the Wolf badge.  After earning his Wolf badge, the Scout may continue along the Arrow Point Trail and earn 1 arrow point for every 10 electives he completes.
  Bear

A Cub Scout, who is in the third grade, works to complete 12 of 24 achievements to earn the Bear badge. After he earns his Wolf or Bear badge, a boy may work on electives in different interest areas until he is old enough to begin work on the next rank.  For every 10 electives a boy completes, he earns an Arrow Point.   A boy may earn as many Arrow Points as he can.

 Webelos I and II

When a Cub Scout has completed the third grade, he transfers to a Webelos den, led by an adult Webelos leader. The boy works on requirements for the Webelos badge, 20 activity badges, and the Arrow of Light Award (the highest award in Cub Scouting).  Camping and outdoor programs are an important part of the 18-month Webelos program. In February of a Webelos Scout's fifth-grade year, he graduates from Cub Scouting into the adventures of Boy Scouting at an impressive graduation crossover ceremony. Every boy deserves the opportunity to be a Boy Scout.
